Impact of Study Island on Student Math Achievement on the NWEA™ MAP™
This research study was conducted by Century Analytics in order to offer a reliable evaluation of the influence of Edmentum’s Study Island use on arithmetic achievement for children in grades 2-8. The study included comparisons of different national groups of users and non-users matched on previous RIT scores and the length of time between their autumn and winter MAP administrations to achieve baseline equivalency.
Results of this study indicate that students who utilize Study Island and finish at least 50% of the available Study Island math subjects at their grade level will make statistically significant gains in achievement compared to those who do not complete any topics. If students complete half or more of the Study Island topics during the first half of the year, they will be on target to complete all topics by the end of the school year and will be reviewing a wide range of standards aligned material that is required for their grade and subject. Students who used Study Island scored, on average, 0.52 points higher on winter MAP exams for 8th grade students and 3.28 points higher for 2nd grade kids.
